About This Site

This site is written by Andy Strote, Toronto to commemorate the trips my wife Marlene and I took to Paris and the south of France May 20 – 30, 2010, and again in May / June of 2011. In 2010, our 25th anniversary was approaching and it had been years since we’d been to Paris together.

For me, the 2010 trip was also one of my Van Gogh pilgrimages. I have long had a major fascination (can you be a fan?) with Van Gogh because in addition to his genre-setting paintings, he was a superb writer. A bit self-obsessed perhaps, but fascinating in his interpretations of his own paintings, right down to what specific colours represent to him.

In 2011, we stayed in Paris for two weeks, save a day trip to Chartres. This time we took our son and his girlfriend and rented a wonderful apartment in the 5th arrondisement, just around the corner from the Notre Dame.

We’ve had many wonderful vacations together, but these cast a very special magic.
