On the way to the hotel we had passed the Café Dauphine.
We made our way back there and were happy to see that they were displaying a lunch menu. We found a table just inside the open sliding doors. Now it was time to test our “menu French”. Easy. Poulet frites, s’il vous plait, times two. And two vins rouges s’il vous plait. Delicious!
At the bar, a group of workers in overalls and other work uniforms stood drinking, mostly beer. This is one thing we continued to notice, especially in Paris, as we had either breakfast or early lunch – guys (never saw women with them) who we assumed had been working the night shift, having their “end of shift” drink. At first it seemed incongruous that they’re drinking beer at eight in the morning while we were having breakfast, but like so many things in France, it made sense.
OK, so now we had successfully checked into our hotel, cleaned up and had our first meal. Now what? From our long list of “things to do in Paris”, we decided to go to the Musée d’Orsay.
This is where we could see the greatest collection of paintings by Van Gogh and his contemporaries in Paris.
Like so many places in Paris, we could walk there. And best of all, we’d continue to walk along the broad sidewalks along the Quai’s of Paris along side the Seine.
